The North East’s fastest growing IT Solutions Company, OnTrac have sponsored the newly formed Newcastle Benfield Juniors FC.
Newcastle Benfield Juniors FC are a newly formed junior football club based in the East End of Newcastle. It was formed in March 2015 by Mark Rooke and Ged Forster under the umbrella of Newcastle Benfield Senior Team. Their aim is to produce and manage elite footballing talent that this area has historically produced through players such as Michael Carrick, Alan Thompson, Lee Clark, Alan Shearer and Peter Beardsley, who all herald from this part of Newcastle’s East End.
Football in Newcastle is often a release for many kids from the pressures of home life and school. At Newcastle Benfield, with the help of OnTrac’s sponsorship, they aim to take some of this pressure away from the kids and let them enjoy playing football.
OnTrac became involved with Newcastle Benfield when Leigh Macfarlane, Candidate Relationship Manager at OnTrac’s new people services division, approached his Managing Director Martyn Cuthbert, about sponsorship for the U14s team over the next 2 seasons.
The new division, OnPeople, focuses on engaging with up and coming IT Talent in the North East. The OnPeople team work with students & graduates by training, developing and coaching with the aim to place them in Industry jobs, preferably keeping their talent within the North East.
Leigh’s role at OnPeople goes hand-in-hand with what he is trying to achieve at Newcastle Benfield U14s: engaging with up and coming youngsters in the area by training, developing and coaching them, so they fulfil and make the most of their talent. Leigh is also an FA Qualified coach at Newcastle Benfield for the Under 14 team.
Leigh commented, “OnPeople offer companies the chance to connect with students who wish to enter a career in Technology, at a stage when they are completing academic studies. OnPeople consult with businesses to find out what a student needs to achieve in order to become an employee within that organisation and guide them through that process”.
Leigh continued, “Our partners in education also work alongside OnPeople, creating niche learning materials, tailored to individual business needs, giving companies a ready-trained employee.”
On and off the football pitch, OnTrac & OnPeople are investing in and supporting the future of North East talent both at a grassroots football level and in the classroom.
OnPeople’s Head of Training and Development, Malcolm Scott, commented, “OnPeople was created to offer better opportunities to students in the Technology job market. It’s all about making sure that we’re working to boost the chances of people in the region in getting the job they deserve. It’s also a chance to help bridge the skills gaps that currently exist in the market and ensuring that we create strong workforces for our clients. There’s so much fantastic talent in the North East and we want to be part of helping it to flourish.”
